Samsung Dryer oD error code
The dryer ran far longer than it should - over about 4 hours - without the load drying. It flagged an excessively-long dry-time fault, which usually points to the moisture sensor bars.
Also shown as: oD, OD

What causes the oD error?
- Dirty moisture sensor bars misreading dampness
- Blocked exhaust vent slowing drying
- Clogged lint filter
- Overloaded drum
- Failed moisture sensor
- Failed main control board
How to fix Samsung oD — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Clean the moisture sensor bars
Find the two metal strips inside the drum (usually near the lint filter housing) and wipe them with a soft cloth. Fabric-softener residue coats them and makes the dryer think clothes are still wet.Safety warning: Use a soft cloth only - abrasives scratch the sensor coating. - Clean the lint filter
Remove all lint from the filter before every load. A clogged filter cripples airflow and stretches drying time until oD trips. - Check the exhaust vent
Inspect the vent hose for kinks or lint packing and the outside hood for blockages. Poor venting is the other big cause of marathon dry times.Safety warning: Unplug the dryer before pulling it out to check the vent. - Reduce the load size
An overstuffed drum cannot tumble clothes through the hot air. Dry large loads in two smaller batches and see whether oD disappears.
When to call a technician
- oD persists with clean sensors, filter, and vent
- Drying times stay extremely long on every cycle
- The moisture sensor needs replacement
- The main control board is suspect
Frequently asked questions
What does oD stand for?
Over-dry / excessively dry time - the dryer ran past its maximum allowed drying time (around 240 minutes) because the load never registered as dry.
My dryer never seems to finish. Is that oD?
Yes, that is the classic symptom. Dirty sensor bars are the first suspect - the dryer cannot tell the clothes are dry, so it just keeps running.
Can I use sandpaper on the sensor bars?
No. Use a soft cloth, possibly slightly damp. Abrasives damage the sensor coating and make the problem worse.
