What causes the AE error?
- Loose wiring harness between control boards
- Failed main control board
- Failed display or sub control board
- Corroded or damaged board connectors
- Power surge damaging the electronics
How to fix Samsung AE — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Power-cycle the dryer
Unplug the dryer or flip its breaker off for 2 to 5 minutes, then restore power and try a cycle. Communication glitches from power dips often clear with a full reset. - Try one restart, then stop resetting
If AE returns immediately after a proper power cycle, the fault is hardware - a board or harness problem. Repeated resets will not fix it and just waste your time. - Note when the code appears
Write down whether AE shows at power-on, when you press start, or mid-cycle, and take a photo of the display. That detail helps the technician pinpoint which board is failing.
When to call a technician
- AE returns after a full power cycle
- The wiring harness between boards needs inspection
- A control board needs testing or replacement
- The code appeared after a power surge (possible board damage)
Frequently asked questions
Can I fix AE myself?
There is no homeowner fix beyond a power cycle. The boards and harnesses are inside the machine and involve live-voltage testing, so this is technician work.
Is AE caused by a power surge?
It can be. Surges damage control boards and corrupt their communication. If AE appeared right after an outage, mention that to the technician - and consider a surge protector.
Will the dryer run at all with AE?
Usually not. The control cannot coordinate the cycle without board communication, so it stays locked out for safety.
