Samsung Dryer 3C error code
The dryer detected a problem with the drive motor or its inverter circuit, so it will not start the drum. Samsung's guidance for this code is to check the inverter motor.

What causes the 3C error?
- Drive motor relay short
- Overloaded drum tripping the motor protection
- Failed drive motor
- Loose or damaged motor wiring
- Failed inverter control board
- Drum jammed by a stuck item or broken belt
How to fix Samsung 3C — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Restart the cycle
Stop the dryer, wait a minute, and start the cycle again. A one-time electronic glitch can throw 3C, and a clean restart rules that out. - Reduce the load and try again
An overloaded drum can trip the motor fault. Take out half the load, close the door, and restart. If the smaller load runs, overloading was the trigger. - Power-cycle the dryer
Unplug the dryer or flip its breaker off for 2 to 5 minutes, then restore power. This resets the motor control electronics before you assume a hardware failure. - Check that the drum turns freely
With the dryer off, open the door and turn the drum by hand. It should rotate with mild resistance. If it is stuck or grinds, something is jammed - do not force it; call a technician.Safety warning: Keep the dryer unplugged while checking the drum.
When to call a technician
- 3C returns after restarts and a reduced load
- The drum will not turn by hand or makes grinding noises
- The motor, relay, or inverter board needs testing
- You smell burning from the dryer
Frequently asked questions
Will 3C go away if I just keep restarting?
A true motor fault will not. One or two restarts are fine for testing, but if 3C keeps returning, the motor, relay, or inverter board needs a technician.
Is 3C the same as a heating problem?
No. 3C is about the motor that turns the drum. Heating faults show as HC or HE instead.
Can an overloaded dryer cause 3C?
Yes. Too much laundry strains the motor and can trip the fault. If a reduced load runs fine, keep future loads smaller.
