What causes the OC error?
- Water inlet valve stuck open
- Excess detergent creating suds that fool the level sensor
- Blocked drain slowing water exit
- Faulty water level sensor
- Failed main control board
How to fix Samsung OC — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Let the dishwasher drain itself
Give the machine a few minutes - on OC it normally runs the drain pump automatically until the level drops. Do not open the door mid-drain. - Cut back on detergent
Too much detergent or the wrong type creates suds that trigger false over-level readings. Use the recommended amount of automatic-dishwasher detergent only. - Check the drain path
Make sure the drain hose is not kinked and the sink drain or disposal is clear. Slow draining lets the level climb during fill. - Watch for continuous filling
If water keeps rising even with the power off, the inlet valve is stuck open - turn off the under-sink supply valve and call a technician.Safety warning: A valve stuck open can flood the kitchen - shut the supply valve promptly.
When to call a technician
- Water keeps filling with the power off (stuck inlet valve)
- OC returns on every cycle with correct detergent
- The inlet valve or level sensor needs replacement
- The control board is overfilling the tub
Frequently asked questions
Is OC dangerous?
It can be if the inlet valve is stuck - water keeps coming. If the level keeps rising with the power off, shut the supply valve and call for service.
Can suds really cause OC?
Yes. Excess foam confuses the level sensor into thinking the tub is overfull. This is why dishwasher detergent amount matters.
What is the difference between OC and LC?
OC means too much water inside the tub. LC means moisture detected in the base pan under the tub (a leak). Different sensors, different problems.
