What causes the 9E error?
- Water supply valve partially closed
- Low household water pressure
- Kinked inlet hose
- Clogged inlet filter
- Failing water inlet valve
- Faulty low-level sensor
How to fix Samsung 9E — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Empty the dishwasher and run a Normal cycle
Samsung's prescribed test: empty the machine, add detergent, and run a Normal cycle. This lets the dishwasher attempt a clean fill without load interference. - Check the water supply
Confirm the under-sink supply valve is fully open, the inlet hose is not kinked, and nearby faucets have normal pressure. Low supply is the most common real cause. - Power-cycle at the circuit breaker
If 9E persists, switch the dishwasher's breaker off for 30 seconds and back on, then retry. This resets the level-sensing electronics.
When to call a technician
- 9E persists with good water supply and pressure
- The inlet valve needs testing or replacement
- The water level sensor is faulty
- The control board is misreading the sensor
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 9E and 4C?
4C means water is not reaching the dishwasher properly (supply problem). 9E means water got in but the tub level reads too low (fill or sensor problem). They overlap, so check the supply for both.
Can a dirty filter cause 9E?
A badly clogged filter can restrict circulation enough to confuse the level sensing. Clean the filter as part of your 9E checks.
9E appears but the tub looks full. Why?
Then the low-level sensor itself is likely misreading - possibly scaled up or faulty. That needs a technician.
