What causes the te1 error?
- Failed thermistor
- Loose or damaged sensor wiring
- Control board fault
- Overheating damage to the sensor
How to fix LG te1 — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Power reset the dryer
Turn the dryer off, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and try a cycle. This clears temporary sensor faults. - Clean the lint filter and vent
Overheating from blocked airflow stresses temperature sensors. Clean the filter and check the outside vent for good airflow. - Test again and note the result
If tE1 returns immediately, the sensor has genuinely failed and needs replacing. This is an internal part.
When to call a technician
- The code returns after a power reset
- The dryer will not heat
- You smell burning
- The code appears alongside other sensor codes
Frequently asked questions
Will the dryer heat at all with tE1?
No. The dryer stops heating because it cannot verify the temperature is safe.
Is the thermistor expensive?
The part is inexpensive, but reaching it requires opening the dryer, so most people use a technician.
Can lint cause tE1?
Not directly, but chronic overheating from blocked vents can damage sensors over time.
