What causes the oe error?
- Clogged filter basket
- Kinked or blocked drain hose
- Clogged air gap or garbage disposal connection
- Jammed drain pump
- Drain hose installed without a high loop
How to fix LG oe — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Cancel and drain
Press Cancel to trigger the drain cycle. Open the door carefully once it finishes pumping.Safety warning: The water may be hot. Open the door slowly. - Clean the filter
Remove the filter basket from the tub floor and rinse it under running water. Food debris in the filter is the most common cause of OE. - Check the drain hose
Look at the drain hose behind the unit for kinks. It should arc upward in a high loop before connecting to the drain. - Clear the air gap or disposal
If you have an air gap cap by the sink, lift it and clear debris. If the dishwasher drains through a new garbage disposal, make sure the knockout plug was removed.
When to call a technician
- The filter and hose are clear but OE returns
- The drain pump hums but moves no water
- Standing water will not drain at all
- The drain hose is damaged
Frequently asked questions
Why is there standing water in my dishwasher?
The drain path is blocked somewhere between the tub and your sink drain. Work through the filter, hose, and air gap steps above.
I just installed a garbage disposal and now see OE. Why?
New disposals have a knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet that must be punched out, or water cannot drain.
Can I run the dishwasher with OE?
No. Standing dirty water will just get pumped onto your dishes. Clear the blockage first.
