What causes the ie error?
- Water supply valve closed
- Kinked or clogged inlet hose
- Clogged inlet filter screen
- Low household water pressure
- Failed water inlet valve
How to fix LG ie — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Make sure the water is on
Check the water supply valve under the sink or behind the dishwasher and turn it fully open. - Check the inlet hose
Look for kinks, twists, or crushing in the water inlet hose. Straighten it gently so water flows freely. - Clean the inlet filter screen
Turn off the water supply, disconnect the inlet hose at the dishwasher, and rinse the small mesh filter screen inside the valve inlet.Safety warning: Turn the water supply off before disconnecting any hose. - Test the water flow
With the hose disconnected, briefly open the supply into a bucket. Strong flow means the house supply is fine and the dishwasher valve is suspect.
When to call a technician
- Water flow is strong but IE returns
- The inlet valve hums but lets no water in
- The valve leaks
- You suspect a wiring or board fault
Frequently asked questions
I just installed the dishwasher and see IE. Why?
The supply valve is often left closed after installation, or the inlet hose got kinked while pushing the unit in.
Can a clogged filter cause IE?
Yes. Sediment in the mesh screen is a common cause, especially on well water or old plumbing.
How long should filling take?
A few minutes. If the tub is still nearly empty after 10 minutes, the dishwasher flags IE.
