What causes the E06 error?
- Door not fully closed or latched
- Obstruction in the door latch (rack, utensil)
- Failed door latch sensor or reed switch
- Misaligned door
- Damaged wiring to the door sensor
- On some models, a faulty aqua (turbidity) sensor reading as E06
How to fix Bosch E06 — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Close the door firmly
Open the door, make sure no rack or utensil sticks out, then push it shut firmly until the latch clicks. Press Start again. - Reset power at the breaker for 30 seconds
Turn off the breaker for 30 seconds, then restore power. This is Bosch's official first step and clears sensor glitches. - Check the latch for debris
Look at the latch area on the tub frame for food particles or a bent strike plate. Clean out anything blocking full closure.Safety warning: Turn off the breaker before inspecting the latch closely. - Wipe the door seal
A dirty or sticky door gasket can hold the door a few millimeters open. Wipe the gasket with a damp cloth and close the door again.
When to call a technician
- E06 returns after the reset with a firmly latched door
- The latch is visibly broken or the door will not stay shut
- The sensor or latch switch needs replacement
- The dishwasher is under warranty
Frequently asked questions
The door looks closed but E06 shows. Why?
The sensor needs full latch engagement. A slightly misaligned door or a weak latch can leave the sensor open even when the door looks shut.
Can I run the dishwasher with E06 showing?
No. The dishwasher will not start until the door sensor confirms a proper close — this is a safety interlock.
What if the door closes fine but the code stays?
Then the sensor, its wiring, or the latch switch has failed and needs a technician to test and replace.
