What causes the OE error?
- Water inlet valve stuck open
- Too much detergent creating excess suds
- Drain hose positioned too low, causing siphoning issues
- Faulty water level sensor
- Failed main control board overfilling the tub
How to fix Samsung OE — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Power off for 1 minute, then power on
Switch the washer off for a minute and back on. The drain pump should start automatically and pump the excess water out. - Check whether water keeps filling with power off
If water continues entering the tub while the washer is unplugged, the inlet valve is stuck open - turn off the water taps immediately and call a technician.Safety warning: A stuck-open valve can flood - shut the taps promptly. - Use the correct amount of HE detergent
Too much detergent - or non-HE detergent - creates suds that fool the level sensor into overfilling. Use high-efficiency detergent at the recommended dose. - Check the drain hose height
The drain hose end should be 60 to 90 cm above the floor and not shoved too far into the standpipe. Wrong height causes siphoning and level errors.
When to call a technician
- Water keeps filling with the power off (stuck valve)
- OE returns with correct detergent and hose height
- The inlet valve or level sensor needs replacement
- The control board is overfilling the tub
Frequently asked questions
Is OE dangerous?
It can be if the inlet valve is stuck - water keeps coming even with the power off. Shut the water taps and call for service in that case.
Can too much detergent really cause overfilling?
Yes. Excess suds confuse the water level sensor, and the machine keeps adding water. This is one of the most common OE triggers.
What is the difference between OE and 4C?
4C means the washer cannot get enough water. OE means it has too much. Opposite problems, sometimes with overlapping causes like a bad inlet valve.
