Frigidaire Refrigerator OP error code
The fresh-food temperature sensor circuit is open. The sensor is disconnected or has failed, so the control cannot read that compartment's temperature.

What causes the OP error?
- Temperature sensor (thermistor) unplugged
- Broken or chewed sensor wiring
- Failed thermistor
- Corroded sensor connector
- Control board not reading the sensor
How to fix Frigidaire OP — step by step
Work through these in order, from simplest and safest first. Stop as soon as the code clears.
- Power-reset the refrigerator
Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. This clears a false open-sensor reading from a glitch. If OP returns, the sensor or its wiring is genuinely bad. - Note which compartment shows OP
Note which display shows OP and whether that compartment is cooling normally. Share both facts with your technician: it tells them exactly which sensor to test. - Check your warranty first
If the refrigerator is under warranty, call Frigidaire service instead of opening anything. Sensor replacement is usually covered. - Call a technician for sensor replacement
Replacing a thermistor means locating the sensor, testing its resistance, and splicing in the new one. A technician can identify the right sensor and replace it without damaging the liner.
When to call a technician
- OP returns after a power reset
- The compartment with the OP code is not holding temperature
- The thermistor or its wiring needs replacement
- Multiple sensor codes appear at once (possible board fault)
Frequently asked questions
OP vs SH: what is the difference?
OP means the sensor circuit is open (disconnected). SH means the sensor circuit is shorted. Both point to the same sensor needing replacement, but the failure mode differs.
Which sensor does OP refer to?
The code appears on the display for the compartment whose sensor failed: fresh-food display means the fresh-food sensor, freezer display means the freezer sensor.
Can OP clear on its own?
Sometimes. If a connector worked loose, a reset plus reseating clears it. If the sensor itself failed, the code returns.
